Hurricane Harvey

If you follow me on Facebook, you might have seen that I am in Katy, Texas which is one of the areas affected by Hurricane Harvey.
I feel very blessed, that I am still dry and that my family and my house are safe. On Sunday afternoon we had a bit of a scare as the water was rising quickly on our street, but it did not come up to the house. All main roads out of our neighborhood were flooded as of Monday evening.
Many in the Houston area have not been this lucky. One of my best friends lost almost everything due to flooding. I was a wreck until I knew they were rescued out of their house and safe with friends. To be honest, this weekend was nerve wracking, exhausting, and it is not over yet. We are supposed to get more rain. Schools are closed till after labor day.

Being cooped up in the house since pretty much Friday afternoon, I feel helpless. But I know there is a lot to do in the weeks, even months to come. So my Partner in Crime, Pamela from Bling Out Loud and I put our heads and resources together and we are launching the #TexasStrong T-Shirt Campaign. All proceeds will be donated. A percentage will go to Global Giving’s Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund and the rest will be donated to a local charity to help with the relief and rebuild efforts.

We are offering this design until September 15th.

We would like to sell at least 24 shirts to maximize the donations. So please share this post with everybody you know. The more shirts we sell, the more money will go to the charities. This hits home.

This is the shirt design. We are offering it in Unisex 50/50 blend and a Relaxed Fit Ladies V-Neck

You can order your here: #TexasStrong Shirt

We are so proud of how our communities always come together to help,
I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart.

What’s New? Wednesday

Today I want to talk about inspiration.
As I am patiently waiting for my laser cutter to be assembled. I am on pinterest daily getting inspiration for items that I want to design to make my Geeksters happy.
When I look at items on pinterest, I don’t look to copy what other artists do. I look and find items that I can change to make them fit for my target Audience.
For instance the rings in the attached pictures, I saw them and my brain automatically went “Impala” and “Tardis”. I didn’t know I can cut leather with the machine, so the inspiration to make leather cuffs for people at the Renaissance Faire, especially my fairy friends.
I love how many options I now have with this laser cutter.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Happy Geekery

Charity Work for 2017

Hello fellow readers,

well this past year has not been a good one for SewGeekAustin. Sales have been down, partially that is my fault and partially I blame Hot Topic. LOL

But now for a more serious post, in 2016 I have not been able to donate nearly as much as I have in previous years, so I am asking you all my trusty readers to help me out.

I am still going to donate 10% of all my online sales to charities. Help me pick the charities for the year. I am also asking you to spread the word about my shop. I am hoping to get back to more sewing items rather then jewelry. I am planning some new one of kind handbags.
Also if you want anything custom made please contact me and I will try my best to make it happen.

Let’s see if we can get to 6000 FB likes by the end of the year and I will hold a pretty awesome new Years give away. (well I will do that anyways)

Also please don’t forget to sign up for my Newsletter here: Newletter Sign Up

I am looking forward to raising more money again and to make Geeks all over the world happy.

Upcycled products…

I love upcycled products and so I decided last year to make Denim Bags from old Jeans. When I was a Teenager, I had made myself my favorite purse from my favorite old Jeans that I could no longer wear.

My Denim bags are lined in SewGeekAustin’s signature Pink and come in different fandoms. Of course Supernatural is one of them and I decided to make a tribute bag to the beautiful car of Dean Winchester. Including the Army Man and the Lego.

You can find all my purses and bags here: SewGeekAustin Bags.

Have a wondeful Saturday:

Today is September 10, 2016 and it is #worldsuicidepreventionday

Up until last year I did not even know that this day excisted. Up until last year, I didn’t even know it was ok, to talk about my depression and my anxiety in public. Up until last year I was afraid to talk about it.

But Last year in March a wonderful man named Jared Padalecki changed that for me. He started the #alwayskeepfighting campaign. I remember when I saw his shirt campaign on represent.com I was crying, the message he had written with the shirt spoke to me. It made me feel better about myself, and I realized that it was ok to talk about it. If Jared was able to talk about it so was I.
Then I started to research how to have wristbands made and I did get them made and started to sell them with all the proceeds going to charity.
So far I have been able to make 2 $1000 donations, one to “To Write Love On Her Arms” and one to “Attitudes In Reverse or A.I.R.” I also have some more money aside from more bracelet sales that will to Jared and Jensen’s “Pack Fund”
If you would like to purchase one of those braclets you can get them here: #alwayskeepfighting bracelets
If you feel suicidal please call a hotline at 1-800-273-8255 or talk to a friend, but please please please find help. <3

Going Back in Time…

4 years ago when I first started this business, I made wrap bracelets and I made a lot of them. For some reason I stopped making them.
Well prepare yourself, cause I am making them again. They are back in stock and I am excited.
These wrap bracelets show your fandom very subtlety and make a fashion statement at the same time.

I changed the design just a little bit and am using a bit bigger beads and leather cording. So they are more durable.

These sell for $28 plus shipping

SewGeekAustin’s New Home…

About a year ago my very dear friend Pamela from Bling Out Loud and business Partner at Fluffy Shirts came to me with this crazy idea that we should open a brick and mortar store.
